COMPULSORY ENROLMENT IN BRITAIN IN CERTAIN DEFENCE AREAS.' ANNOUNCEMENT IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. > (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) RUGBY, March 11. Compulsory enrolment in the Home Guard is x to be introduced in certain civil' defence regions. Mr Duncan Sandys, making this announcement in the House of Commons, said that in certain parts of the country, where voluntary recruiting was insufficient, it had become urgently necessary to bring the Home Guard up to strength. Compulsory enrolment, therefore, would be introduced in civil defence regions corresponding approximately to the areas embraced by the East, South-East and Southern military commands. Compulsory enrolment would be introduced in further areas as and when necessary.
