The Tirpitz, which made its first appearance in the war at sea in the ac-> tion off the coast of Norway in which it was attacked with torpedoes by British naval aircraft (as reported in an earlier message) is a battleship of 35,000 tons and a sister ship of the Bismarck. The latter was sunk on her initial attempt at commerce raiding. Completed after the outbreak of war, the Tirpitz mounts eight 15 inch, twelve 5.9 inch and smaller guns. She is equipped to carry four aircraft and her designed speed is probably as high as thirty knots.
