TERRITORIAL SERVICE

MARRIED MEN WITH CHILDREN TO BE CALLED UP THIS MONTH. APPROXIMATELY 17,500. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Approximately 17.500 men arc to be called up for Territorial service in a Gazette to be released on March 25. This decision of the War Cabinet, which was announced on Saturday by the Minister of National Service, Mr Semple, involves the first call-up of married men with children. It was previously announced that in future married men with children would be called up by age groups and on this occasion married men from 18 to 28 years of age (both inclusive) who have children will be gazetted for service. In addition all men of the First Division and married men without children who have not previously been called in a ballot and who are not volunteer members of Territorial units will also be gazetted. “The men will be medically examined as soon as possible after March 25 and those who are fit for service will be posted to camp at very short notice, possibly not more than seven days’ notice will be given,” said Mr Semple. “Consequently steps should be' taken by these men to place their private and business affairs in order immediately so that they will be available for camp when required. “Appeals for postponement of service require to be posted or delivered to the nearest manpower committee within 10 days after the date of the Gazette, that is, on or before April 4. Employers should take this opportunity of reviewing their staffing positions immediately so that any appeals they consider necessary are lodged as soon as possible after March 25, but in any case not later than April 4.”
