ALFREDTON

PATRIOTIC SOCIETY GAMES NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly “games evening” conducted by the Patriotic Society was held on Saturday night. The winners in the euchre were: —Ladies: Mrs A. McDonald; men, Mr Hartley and Mr Low, tied. As a mark of respect to the memory of Sergeant Pilot Hylton George, those present stood in silence for two minutes. A motion of sympathy was passed to his mother, Mrs E. George, in her bereavement. The competitions resulted as follows:—A dinner donated by Mrs E. Seymour was won by Mr B. Galbraith; a set of pudding basins, by Mr G. Napier; a box of chocolates donated by Master Charles Leach, by Mr J. Heeney. The raffles totalled £5 Ils 9d. The following donated goods were auctioned by Mr R. Kebbell* —Cabbage from Mrs J. Hartley; cabbage from Mr E. Anderson; cauliflower from Mr G. Higginson; marrows and cauliflower from Mrs G. Napier; potatoes and lettuce plants from Mrs Yarrell; apples and lettuces from Mr H. Percy; Damsons from Mrs R. Low; and marrows from Mr R. Kebbell. The takings for the night totalled £l2 9s 2d. The hostesses were Mesdames T. Smith, Burch and Yarrall. Personal Items. Mrs J. Smith, Forest Flat, is visiting Masterton. Mi’ E. Seymour is on a visit to Auckland. Private S. Smith visited his parents, Mr and Mrs T. Smith, during the weekend. Mrs Hall left yesterday to make her home at Pahautea. On Friday afternoon a few friends met at the residence of Mrs J. Hartley to bid farewell to Mrs Hall who has resided in the district for the last fifteen years. Mrs Doyle, on behalf of Mrs Hall’s friends, asked Mrs Hall to accept as a token of respect in which she is held, a lovely blue , teapot, cup and saucer on a blue tray. Mrs Hall, who was also presented with a beautiful posy, suitably acknowledged the presentation.
