BLACKOUT ORDER

ENDING GREAT WHITE WAY IN NEW YORK. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) WASHINGTON, February 28. The end of New York’s great White Way is foreshadowed by an order issued by the Office of Civilian Defence directing the nightly blacking out of advertising signs, store windows and other illuminated displays in critical coastal areas. The order affects areas extending inland 300 miles from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Workmen are already dismantling a giant display in Times Square, which is a block long and four stories high and consumed electricity sufficient to illuminate a city of 10,000 persons.
