VICHY & NAZIS

IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS EXPECTED FATE OF FRENCH FLEET AT STAKE. “COLLABORATION” EXTENDING. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, February 27. Important developments concerning the relations between Vichy and the Allied Powers, particularly the United States and Britain, may be expected shortly, says the Press Associations political correspondent. The Toulon Fleet has been reinforced by the Dunkerque and must be a constant temptation to Hitler. The temptation would be greater if the fleet were reinforced by the units now at Dakar. The fleet is a big bargaining counter for Marshal Petain so long as it remains in French hands, but collaboration between Vichy and the Axis is reaching such a point that opportunities, and indeed the necessity for bargaining may well be rapidly disappearing.
