NAVAL PLANES

GALLANT PART IN CHANNEL ACTION AGAINST NAZI WARSHIPS FROM BREST. STATEMENT IN LONDON. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day s 12.5 p.ni.) RUGBY, February 27. Reference is authoritatively made to the gallant action of Swordfish aircraft during the recent Channel action against German warships _ steaming from Brest. These aircraft, it is stated, did not fly from a training centre. They had been sent deliberately to the place from which they flew, to act as reinforcements, in such an action as might arise, to the R.A.F. torpedobombing planes which actually took part in the operation. Three of Swordfish were flown by personnel who had previously fired torpedoes at the enemy during this way and the other three were flown by fully-trained torpedo-dropping pilots.
