OBITUARY
MRS ELIZABETH LLOYD. The death occurred yesterday of Mrs Elizabeth Lloyd, widow of the late Mr J. M. Lloyd, of Wellington and Christchurch, in her 92nd year. The late Mrs Lloyd was born at Lower Hutt, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Stratford, Mr Stratford being a pioneer surveyor employed by the New Zealand Land Co. under the Wakefield Settlement Scheme. She resided in Wellington with her husband, Mr James McGregor Lloyd, the first copperplate engraver in New Zealand, until 1887, when she and her husband removed to Christchurch where Mr Lloyd remained until his death 40 years ago. Latterly Mrs Lloyd had resided in Wellington and Masterton. She was of a bright, cheerful disposition and took a keen interest in everyday affairs. She was a member of the Wellington Early Settlers’ Association. The late Mrs Lloyd is survived by two sons, Messrs P. Lloyd (Christchurch) and N. Lloyd (Adelaide), and by three daughters, Mesdames W. Gowan (Wadestown, Wellington), F. McMillan (Auckland), and W. Jacobsen (Masterton), besides two sisters, Mesdames J. Powell (Ballance) and A. Hislop (Makara, Wellington). There are 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grand-children and six great-great-grand-children.
The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service following a service at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
