ROMMEL APPARENTLY IN DIFFICULTIES OWING TO DESTRUCTION OF SUPPLIES. TELLING BRITISH AIR ATTACKS. LONDON, February 18. In Libya our fighting patrols and mobile columns met with no opposition over a wide area. There is no evidence. that General Rommel is coni inning the withdrawal reported yesterday. It is believed in London that he came forward intending Io advance, but found himsell. deprived of necessary supplies owing to their destruction by British air attacks. A South African battery recently shot down five enemy planes in 24 hours. This is believed to be a record. A heavy bombing raid by the R.A.F. on the Axis supply base of Benghazi on Monday is reported in a R.A.F. communique. A series of explosions lit up the whole town and large fires broke out. Tripoli also had another visit when the harbour and railway station were bombed.
