OFFICERS’ CAPS STOLEN
INCIDENT AT MASTERTON DANCE. TWO DEFENDANTS FINED. Two charges of theft of military officers’ caps were heard in the Masterton Magistrate's Court this morning. The charges related to events at a dance held in Masterton on January 24. A defendant whose name was suppressed was charged with the theft Oi a cap, valued at 27s 6d. the property of Lieutenant Colonel Fey. William Oliver Pringle was similarly charged in respect to a cap belonging to Second Lieutenant Potter. Senior Sergeant G. A. Doggett said that while the dance Was in progress two military officers lost their caps from the cloak room. As the result of pc]ice inquiries the caps were located and defendants admitted the offence. They were under the influence of liquor. Both defendants were fined £2 each with costs 10s.
