NILE REGATTA

N.Z.E.F. v REST OF EGYPT. (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.) CAIRO, February 15. Splendid rowing and exciting finishes marked the first regatta held between representatives of the N.Z.E.F. and the rest of Egypt on the River Nile at the Royal Rowing Club. Gezira, today. Wide interest was shown by an attendance of many thousands of New Zealanders, Allied forces and civilians. The water was slightly choppy with a head wind. In the big race the New Zealand eight, lost by a canvas to tfyi University of Cairo. All the New Zealand crew rowed in earlier races and the effect was apparent, but nevertheless they would have won had they not left their finish 30 yards too late. At the finish the New Zealanders were overhauling the university by three to two. Afterward Brigadier Wilder presented the winning crews with specially struck gold medals bearing maps of Egypt and New Zealand,
