HIGHER PAY
FOR BRITISH FIGHTING FORCES INCREASED ALLOWANCE TO DEPENDENTS. ANNOUNCEMENT EXPECTED SHORTLY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day,. Noon.) LONDON, February .6 Though no official statement has yet - been made, it is understood that rankers in the Navy, Army and R.A.F. are shortly to receive an increase in pay of sixpence a day, which will be banked and handed over after the war, in cash or in some form of security. Other changes will be a shilling weekly extra for each dependent child. The compulsory basic allotment will be reduced from 7s to 3s 6d a week, the Government making up the difference to dependents, but banking similarly sixpence a day. Mr Churchill is expected to announce the increase shortly. Some prominent Conservatives, besides Labourites, have been urging the Government to grant increases in order to bridge to some extent the disparity between the pay of the forces and that of wap workers.
