CLOTHING PRICES

MAXIMUM FIXED IN BRITAIN. MADE TO MEASURE SUITS UNDER £6. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 4. Maximum prices for “utility clothing” introduced by the Government as part of its general plans for the coordination of supply are fixed by a Board of Trade Order which came into force yesterday. Examples are: Men’s made-to-mea-sure suits, £5 12s 3d; ready-made, £4 16s 8d; women’s costumes, £4 17s sd. It is pointed out that utility clothing does not mean “standard suits.” The scheme, in short, aims at, first, avoiding waste of precious raw material in the production of worthless arttides; secondly, ensuring an adequate output of clothing of the types needed, and thirdly, preventing the soaring of clothing prices to levels beyond the reach of the mass of the public.
