MASTERTON SEB=CENTRE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. ! GROUP ACTIVITIES. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton Sub-Centre of the Red Cross j Society, Mrs Tolhurst presided. A re-i commendation from the executive committee that Mrs Gooder be appointed assistant secretary was confirmed. It was reported that the work of the SubCentre was increasing, and Mrs Gooder’s offer to assist with the secretarial work was gratefully accepted. A letter was received from Miss Grant, matron of the Masterton Hospital, thanking the society for the work it had done in connection with the Hospital. It was decided that a grant of £4O be made to the Wairarapa Centre towards their working expenses. The Knitting Group reported that 140 garments had been made. Mesdames Pavitt, Gray and Cruickshank were appointed convenors of this group. It was reported that the Hospital Group had had a particularly busy time fulfilling requirements for various hospitals. Mrs Dallas has been able to procure more material for comfort shirts. Some had been made up and could be supplied to those requiring them. The Hospital Auxiliary would be grateful for any donations of books oi’ games. The committee responsible for handcraft instruction reported that at the time of their last visit to the hospital there were no returned soldier inmates, but as other men patients were interested in weaving the looms would be set up for them to work on. The Prisoner of War Committee reported that it was assisting next-of-kin with the packing of parcels, and expressed gratitude to knitters for the splendid supply of warm garments that had been sent in. The Hospital Group asked that two machines should be purchased for their use. This group has a great deal of work to do practically all of which is machine work, and to carry out this work efficiently it is essential that they should have reliable machines to work with. The secretary was authorised to make enquiries about the price of new machines and to purchase two if suitable ones could be obtained. The Hospital Group require beads for jug covers, and would appreciate donations in this connection.
