FORTNIGHTLY MASTERTON SITTING. ' FINE OF £3 FOR ASSAULT. The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate's Court was held today before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. A charge of driving a motor-car in Dixon Street on January 14, in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public was preferred against Harry Sedgley Bannister. Mr R. McKenzie, who appeared for defendant, entered a plea of guilty. Senior-Sergeant G. A. Doggett saia defendant had driven his car along the footpath in Dixon Street from the Bowling Green to the Memorial Park gates. A resident backing out his cal from his garage avoided defendant s car by inches. Mr McKenzie said defendant had been to a party on the evening before ,he entered camp and had intended to turn into McKenna Street. He did not take the turning and more in a spirit of showing off he drove along the footpath for about 200 yards. It was at 11 o’clock at night. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £2, with 10s costs. For assaulting John Hamilton Brownon January 22, Terry Thompson was fined £3 and ordered to pay damages to Brown’s clothing. Senjor-Sergeant Doggett said Brown was assaulted at a dance. The defendant was ushered outside, where the assault was continued. CIVIL CASES. In a defended case, William Stimp-, son v E. H. Schofield, claim £3 14s, judgment was given for defendant with costs £2 4s. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the case of Leslie Thomas O'Connor v Arthur O. Byrne, claim £3 15s, with costs £1 3s 6d. In judgment summons cases, Robert Walter Ferris v Ronald N. Gyde, the defendant was ordered to pay £1 10s forthwith, in default two days’ imprisonment'.
