FOOD FOR GREECE
APALLING CONDITIONS. SHIPLOAD OF WHEAT TO BE SENT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) RUGBY, January 27. ' It is officially stated in London that, to meet the appalling conditions in Greece, the British and American Governments are prepared to authorise the despatch of a single ship with a thousand tons of wheat to Greece, the cargo to be distributed undet the auspices of the International Red Cioss. For many weeks reports have . been reaching London of mass starvation in Greece as the result of . the war with Italy and Germany and the subsequent Axis occupation of the country. Deep concern has been expressed here at the suffering of this gallant people and the sending of this food ship is the immediate answer.
