SOLDIERS’ TEA
GATHERING AT Y.M.C.A. The second function conducted -by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. was held on Sunday evening when the spacious games room, with decorated tables, laden with provisions, was packed to capacity. Mr L. B. Maunsell presided and welcomed the men.
The programme consisted of vocal solos contributed by Miss Jamieson and Mx- Connell. A period of silence was observed as a mark of respect to fallen comrades. The company, in unison, repeated the Lord’s Prayer, and the hymn, “Onward Christian Soldiers” was sung. Mx- Miller Hope accompanied the soloists and the J. Barnes trio efficiently led the community singing conducted by Mx- Connell. A vote of thanks to the hostesses was proposed by Corporal Very. Opportunity was taken to express thanks to the members of the patriotic councils whose efforts on belxalf of the soldiers were highly appreciated.
