* Mrs Gordon Rutherfurd, of Wairana Downs. Auckland, is the guest of Mrs A. F. Thompson, Shedwood, Upper Plain. Mrs W. F. Day has returned to Makomako after a holiday spent in Greytown, Masterton and other Wairarapa towns. Mr C. E. Power, of the Hopelands Dairy Co., Woodville, on leaving to take'up the position of manager of the Ohakune Dairy Co., was presented with a suit case by the staff.
Majox- L. P. Leary, M.C., Ist Field Regiment, New Zealand Artillery, has been granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel. The promotion is announced in the current Gazette and is dated back to December 15. Mr W. A. McGilivray, a chemistry honours student at Auckland University College, has been appointed to a position on the staff of the University of Otago. In addition to lecturing duties he will be working on ergot xesearch.
Mrs P. Fraser, wife of the Prime Minister, who was in Lewisham Hospital for some time recovering from a bad attack of influenza, has now been back at hex- home in Northland for a week. Mr Fraser said yesterday that Mrs Fraser was making good progress, but would not be well enough to receive visitors for a considerable time.
