HASTWELL

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the meeting of the Hastwells Women’s Institute, Mrs K. Ngatuerc presided over a good attendance of mebmers. It was decided to celebrate the Institute birthday with a picnic for the children this year instead of the usual dance. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: —Seniors: Tray cloth, Miss A. Dick 1, Mrs Thorby 2 and Mrs Madsen 3. Juniors: Jug cover, Miss P. Manihera and Miss B. Casely (equal) 1, Miss E. Larsen 2, Miss I. Madsen 3. Best carnation: Mrs Madsen 1, Miss I. Madsen 2, Miss B, Casely 3. The game competition which was conducted by Mrs Seymour was won by Miss P. Manihera, with Mrs K. Ngatuere second and Miss A. Dick third. A parcel fund competition, which was conducted by Mrs Morris, was won by Miss E. Larsen.

The president presented the secretary, Miss O. Halberg, with a shoulder spray in honour of her 21st birthday.

The motto for the month was read by Miss P. Manihera —"Whatsoever the hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might.” Miss B. Casely gave the roll call which was, "The Best Book I Have Read.”

It was decided to send a parcel of work to the Red Cross Society. The judges, Mrs C, Seymour, Mrs Morris, Miss P. Manihera and Miss E. Larsen were thanked for having judged the competitions. The hostesses, Mrs Dick and Miss E. Dick, served afternoon tea.
