POLICY OF EIRE

DE VALERA DENIES CHARGE. NO BARGAINING FOR BASES. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) DUBLIN, January 12. Mi' De Valera denied reports that Eire has secretly bargained with any country. He added: “When the war started I said that not an inch of our territory was for sale. I hoped that would be a sufficient assertion. “We will defend ourselves against attack from any quarter. We did. and are doing, our best to get arms. What arms we get will be secured on the understanding that they may be used to defend our territory against any aggressor, no matter who it might be. We do not intend to enter this war if it can possibly be avoided, and we can avoid it unless we are attacked.”
