EKETAHUNA

FAREWELL GATHERING MR & MRS WIMSETT HONOURED. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a large and representative attendance at the Odd Fellows Hall on Monday night, when a farewell dance was tendered to Mr and Mrs V. G. Wimsett, who will shortly leave io take up their residence in Patea. The gathering was arranged by the business community, the Ladies Patriotic Committee, the Red Cross Society and the railway staff. The music for dancing was played by Marenzi’s Orchestra, and Mrs G. Hansen contributed extras. The M.C. was Mr H. E. Greathead. During the supper’ interval, the Mayor, Mr W. Olsen, voiced the regret of the citizens of Eketahuna at the departure of Mr and Mrs Wimsett. During their 10 years' sojourn in the town they had taken a keen interest in its welfare and had been associated with various local organisations. Mr Wimsett was president of the Red Cross Society and Mrs Wimsett, secretary. Miss M. Anderson, president of the Women’s Patriotic Committee, referred to the excellent work of Mrs Wimsett as secretary of the committee. Mr W. M. Priest, who has been elected chairman of the Red Cross Society. paid a warm tribute to the interest taken by Mr and Mrs Wimsett in the Society. Mr R. Rasmussen, on behalf of the railway staff, congratulated Mr Wimsett on his promotion, and spoke of the happy relations that had existed between Mr Wimsett and the staff.

The Mayor presented Mr and Mrs Wimsett, on behalf of the various organisations, with a handsome canteen of cutlery. After musical honours had been accorded the guests, Mr Wimsett suitably replied. Supper was served by members ot the ladies’ committee, assisted by Red Cross Society members.
