CARTERTON
BOWLING CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following games in club championships were played on the Carterton bowling green last evening:— Champion singles: C. Larsen beat C. C. Callender. 19/13.
Progressive pairs: Pankhurst and Harrington (s) beat Newbould and Riggs (s), 31/14.
Colts singles: Daysh beat Billington, 21/20.
The following draw has been made for the champion singles: Martin v. Whyte <2 lives); Sorensen v. Newbould; Larsen v. G. Hart (1 life).
CAPTAIN & MRS OJALA
FAREWELL GATHERING.
Captain and Mrs Ojala, of the local Salvation Army, were tendered a farewell gathering last evening. Captain and Mrs Ojala have been appointed to Woodville and will leave Carterton on Thursday morning. Mrs F. E. Tyler, the oldest member of the Corps, was invited by the presiding officer, Sister Hatchard, to speak on behalf of the Corps which she did in an excellent manner. Mrs Stack, on behalf of the Home League, Bro. Fairbrother (Young People’s Corps), Miss Stark and Miss Hatchard also spoke.
Captain Ojala suitably acknowledged the kindly remarks of the speakers. Their successors, Adjutant A. Packer, of Te Awamutu, and Lieutenant Laura Dutton, of the Training College, Wellington, would arrive on Thursday night. . The meeting was closed m» prayer by Mr Stent, after which supper was provided.
Personal Items.
The funeral of the late Mr H. R. Burgess took place yesterday afternoon at the Clareville Cemetery. The service at the graveside was conducted by Father Devlin, assisted by Father Connor, at the conclusion of which P.C.R. Bro. C. K. Goodin, of the Court Marquis of Normanby A.0.F., read the Foresters’ service. The pall-bearers ■were: Messrs T. Burgess (Shannon). P. Burgess (Carterton), S. Burgess (Waipukurau), D. Knutson, A. J. King and C. K. Goodin (Foresters’ Lodge). Many beautiful wreaths were sent by relatives and friends. Among those present at the farewell gathering tendered Captain and Mrs Ojala last evening were Sister Voila Tyler, who is to carry out duties overseas and Captain Norman, of Wellington, who is the guest of Mrs I’. E. Tyler. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. M.G.M.'s thrilling sporting drama, "Sporting Blood." starring Robert Young, Maureen O'Sullivan and Lewis Stone, will be shown tonight at the Regent Theatre. (Approved for Universal Exhibition.)
