FINLAND EXHAUSTED

In a surprisingly candid editorial, the Helsinki newspaper “Uusi Suomi” declares that Finland is not afraid of realities but cannot much longer bear a costly war. Therefore now, after attaining her strategic goal, the newspaper asks, why should she continue an increasingly unpopular war? Reports from Helsinki received in the. United States insist that the conclusion of a Russian-Finnish armistice is imminent and is supported by the vast majority of Finns, while it is opposed only by a few politicians and militarists, particularly Field-Marshal Mannerheim.
