FOCAL POINT

LIKELY TO BE MALAYA DEVELOPMENT ANTICIPATED. REINFORCEMENTS AWAITED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) SINGAPORE, January 3. Though the possibility of resistance in the Philippines continuing is not ruled out, it seems most likely that Malaya will soon become the focal point of the Japanese attacks. To all intents and purposes the Americans are now able to fight only a delaying action, with guerilla warfare. The probability of a gradual increase in the force and tempo of the Japanese move against Malaya has already been foreseen by the Imperial commanders in Singapore, who have been fighting delaying actions also, while awaiting the newly-promised arrival of substantial reinforcements with which, they are confident, they will not only hold the Japanese but will gradually push them back to Thailand.
