MADE BY THE CHINESE AT CHANGSHA ENEMY COMMUNICATIONS CUT. ASSAULTS ON CITY GATES THROWN BACK. LONDON, January 4. The great battle for Changsha continues. In the last two days Chinese flank attacks have cut the Japanese lines of communications in places and the Japanese have been compelled to depend on supplies dropped from aircraft. Ten Japanese assaults on the gates of the city have been thrown back after severe hand-to-hand fighting.
