Japanese bombers have raided New Britain, an island group to the east of New Guinea and made two attacks on Rabaul, in Papua. This news is (contained in a communique issued from Melbourne. The first attack on the Royal Australian Air Force at Rabaul was made at noon. Only a few bombs were dropped, but there were some casualties. After the attack the enemy aircraft dispersed over a wide area. The raiders probably came, from Japanese mandated territory, the Caroline Islands, 1000 miles to the north of New Guinea. Jhe second attack was made by eleven enemy planes. A number of bombs were dropped, but there were no casualties.
