French military authorities in Tunis say that Italian and German reinforcements have been landed in Tripoli and are proceeding along the North African coast, hoping to relieve General Rommel before his retreat from Cyrenaica is cut off. It is reported' that a substantial Italian convoy has crossed the Mediterranean after a brush with the British fleet. A dispatch from a news agency correspondent with the Eighth Army reports that the only Christmas pause in the desert fighting was caused by the rain, which fell like a blanket, making the going in the sand practically impossible and preventing. General Ritchie’s army from carrying on the work of destroying what remains of Rommell’s forces. . The latter are now
mostly concentrated in the Jedabaya area, where at the beginning of this year General Bergonzoli and the remnants of his. Italian forces were finally rounded up.
