PRESSURE ON ENEMY FORCES ROUND JEDABAYA Rommel Trying to Get Away Remnants of Armoured Divisions EFFECTIVE AIR ATTACKS ON AXIS TANK CONCENTRATIONS RAID ON SHIPS IN TRIPOLI REGION ■LONDON, December 28. In Libya the main body of General Rommel’s forces is now concentrated round Jedabaya, 100 miles south of Benghazi, and is being subjected to intensive pressure by our artillery and bombing planes. * . , , „ , . e , .• In London it is considered possible that Rommel is fighting a delaying action merely in the hope of dribbling through the remnants of his two armoured divisions. There is no confirmation of any substantial enemy reinforcements having reached Libya. . Today’s Cairo communique says the area between Benghazi and Jedabaya is now almost cleared of the enemy, though mopping-.up continues. Effective air attacks on enemy tank concentrations and petrol supplies are reported in a Cairo air communique. Strong forces of the R.A.F. and Free French bombers attacked objec- % tives in the Bardia perimeter. Fires broke out. Ships in a harbour near Tripoli were also raided.
