GALLANT RESCUE

OF NEW ZEALAND PRISONERS TWO HUNDRED SNATCHED FROM ENEMY. LIEUTENANT CRANE AWARDED D.S.O. 8 LONDON, December 27. Two hundred New Zealand prisoners were snatched ifrom the enemy in Libya by the daring action cf Lieutenant P. L. Crdne, for which he was awarded the D.S.O. Crane led two lorry-loads of troops across no-man’s-land under heavy rifle and machine-gun fire, routed the enemy guards escorting the prisoners, and rescued them all. These New Zealanders included many wounded, tor whom Crane insisted on going back.
