ENTIRE STANDARD BAD

DETERIORATION OF GERMAN MORALE

ADMISSION IN CAPTURED CIRCULAR. i ISSUED BY VON BRAUCHITSCH. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 24. A Cairo message states that the spirit of the Germans in North Africa is deteriorating, and that the efficiency of the German officers is below expectations.

A circular letter signed by General von Brauchitsch, and addressed to all commanders, was found in an evacuated camp. It stated: “The present-day standard of recruits is most disturbing. Only one per cent are able to pass their examinations. The entire moral standard of the young men is bad, and I notice that many lack keennes. This state of affairs is partly due to the economic nature of this war.”
