ITALIANS SAY WITHDRAWAL IS COMPLETE.

A Zurich message states that Berlin belatedly announced yesterday that Field-Marshals von Runstedt and von Bock were dismissed from their commands on the Russian front early this month. The Moscow “Izvestia” reports that General Guderian has been recalled to Germany. The Berlin radio announced that the German General Griedrich Bergmann was killed when leading his infantry division on the Moscow front. The Italian news agency says that the German withdrawal to winter positions in Russia could now be considered to have ended. Ending the . war with Russia would be one of the German Army’s main tasks in 1942, Herr von Ribbentrop today told the official Spanish news agency’s Berlin correspondent. He added that Herr Hitler would personally conduct the campaign.

A Russian communique states: “During December 24, our troops fought the enemy on all sectors. West of Kalinin and- in the south-west sector, our troops, in violent fighting, continued their advance, capturing a number of localities.
“On December 23, twenty enemy planes were brought down. We lost three.
“On December 24 nine enemy planes were brought’ down over Moscow.”
