HELP GIVEN TO ENEMY AT HAWAII ONLY BY JAPANESE VISITORS. NO TRAITORS IN ARMED SERVICES. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, December 22. A Washington communique states that the “Fifth Column” activities which are believed to have provided the enemy with military information before ‘the surprise attack on the Hawaiian Islands were entirely confined to Japanese visitors. All other elements of the population, including the great majority of the Japanese, are loyal to the United States, and there were no “Fifth Columnists” in the armed services. The United States Navy Department announced that the last message from Guam Island was received on December 10. The island reported a Japanese air attack which was centred on’ Agana. Civilians were machine-gunned in the streets. Two native wards of the hospital and the hospital compound were also machine-gunned. Bombs were dropped on the building in which Japanese nationals were confined.
