z IN MILITARY SITUATION LN MALAYA RAIDS BY JAPANESE PLANES. TWO SHOT DOWN BY BRITISH FIGHTERS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) RUGBY, December 23. A communique, issued in Singapore on Tuesday, states: “There has been no further change in the military situation in Northern Malaya. “There was a shore air raid alert in Singapore last night but no bombs were dropped. “Yesterday morning Japanese fighters attempted to raid the Kuala Lumpur Aerodrome. They were immediately engaged by our fighters, who shot down two of the enemy for certain and so damaged two others that it is improbable that they reached their base. “Last night our aircraft raided the Sungoi Paleni Aerodrome, but, owing to poor visibility, the results could not be observed. There was no enemy opposition. J “Kuching was attacked by fifteen Japanese aeroplanes on December 19 and some damage was done to property. Enemy planes bombed and machine-gunned houses and streets, but the casualties were not heavy. The Chief Secretary reports that all departmental services and communities behaved well.”
