ALLEGED JAPANESE AIR ATTACK ON AN AUSTRALIAN PORT. NO CONFIRMATION IN SYDNEY.

A Berlin broadcast which was heard in New York said that the Australian ' Government had ordered the evacuation of women and children from Port Albert, south-eastern Australia, “which was attacked by the Japanese air force. - ’ The broadcast did not give further details.

A Sydney message says there is no confirmation of the Berlin broadcast. Port Albert is situated in the southern extremity of south Gippsland in the vicinity of Wilson’s Promontory, Victoria.
