ON THE DEFENSIVE

NAZI PROPAGANDA DEPARTMENT As Well as German Armies on Eastern Front LAME AND DAMAGING ADMISSIONS RUSSIANS PRESSING THEIR ADVANCE LONDON, December 17. In Russia, the continued successful offensive of our allies has not only forced the German armies to retreat, but has thrown the German Propaganda Department back on the defensive. A special communique issued from Hitler’s headquarters states that in the course of the transition from offensive operations to a war of position during the winter months a shortening of the front is being carried out on parts of the Eastern front.

A Berlin broadcast today announced that the withdrawal would give better protection against the weather. Continued Russian successes are a sufficient comment on this claim.

The Russians are pressing their advance in several areas and communication between Moscow and Leningrad has been re-established. i.u

The Finns admit that the Russians are attacking between Lakes Ladoga and Onega and in Northern Karelia.
