GREYTOWN

DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL FINAL TERM PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown District High School pupils held their final term party for the year last evening in the Odd Fellows' Hall. A very happy time was spent in dancing and competitions. Mr Shedden (Headmaster) addressed the children and wished them all a merry Christmas. Mr H. G. Carter, chairman of the School Committee, congratulated the pupils on their efforts during the year and on their “increased production campaign,” the results in connection with which had been most gratifying. Mr Maloney thanked Mrs H. G. Carter for once again supplying the music. Extras were played by Misses Lynda Ingley, Beryl Hawke and Master Claude Field. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of the senior girls. Horses and Bicycles in Use. Horses and bicycles have made their appearance in Greytown in increased numbers as the result of the petrol restrictions. One case of interest was that of a married couple. The wife cycled six miles to Greytown and home again, and foi’ part of the way the road is in a bad state. Her husband has again taken to riding his horse which has had a long spell. Coal Deliveries. The local coal merchants in this issue draw attention to the restricted days for coal deliveries due to the restrictions in regard to the use of petrol. Personal. Private J. Hood, who was the guest of honour at a gathering at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Haley, Kuratawhiti Street, besides receiving a hold-all from a number of friends, was the recipient of a cheque from the millhands of Mr W. J. Pope. TOWN HALL TOMORROW’S PROGRAMME. “Strange Faces,” a spine-tingling comedy, with Frank Jenks and Andy Devine in the chief roles; “Scotland Yard,” featuring John Loder and Nancy Kelly, and a special short “From the Four Corners,” will be screened tomorrow night. (Recommended by the Censor for adults).
