SOLDIER ENTERTAINED ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Friday evening ’ members and friends of the local Fire Brigade gathered at the Fire Brigade Station to entertain Gunner J. Dickson. Superintendent Rogers in proposing the toast of the guest, said that Gunner Dickson had proved himself as a first-class competition man. In handing Gunner Dickson a leather writing companion, Superintendent Rogers wished him the best of luck. Musical honours were accorded. the recipient, who briefly returned thanks. During the evening items were contributed by Messrs H. Dearie, F. Robinson, R. Walters and H. Jago. The gathering was a most enjoyable one. BOWLING INTER-CLUB GAMES. Two Eketahuna rinks visited Dannevirke last Saturday as challengers for the Gossling Stars and Oxley Cup, the holders retaining the trophies. Results: Dannevirke, Eaton, Holloway, Allardice, Petherick (s) beat T. Hooper, Manser, Holford, Rogers (s), 26/12 for the Gossling Stars. Oxley Cup: Dannevirke, Fairbrother, Allen, Anderson, Bibby (s) beat Tolley, Smith, Williams, Hornblow (s), 23/22. On the local green a Pahiatua rink, Davey, Carrad, Feasey, Cosford (s) defeated the holders of the Mansen and Barr Cup, Fraser, W. Green, Fredericksen, W. Hooper (s), 22/19. Weekend rinks results:—Hausman, Manser, Christie, Fredericksen (s) beat Raleigh, Taylor, Herbert, Fraser (s), 22/18; Brown, F. Green, Mcßride, W. Hooper (s) beat Hart, Bowyer, Farrow, Richardsen (s), 22/15. The first game in the first round of the champion rinks resulted in Ramsay, Payne, Holford, Rogers (s) defeating Butcher, Tolley, W.' Green, Williams (s), 32/19. 1 Personal. Mrs W. Evans, Stanley Street, has entered the Pahiatua Hospital for treatment.
