The annual competitions of the Carterton District High School lamb and calf club were held on the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday.. Mr C. Dairy type (primary scholars): lan Renall 1, W. Gallon 2, Bryan Butcher 3. Dairy type (secondary schools): June Williams 1, I. Butcher 2, M. Renall 3. Champion calf (L. S. Gallon Cup): June Williams 1, lan Renall 2, W. Gallon 3. BOWLING RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP. On the Carterton green on Saturday three games were played in the champion rinks, the results being: A. Thompson, Daysh, DeLacey, Tucker (s) lost to G. Steven, W. Steven, Simmonds, Sorensen (s), 18/19; Irwin (sub.), Beaven, Hughan, Barr (s) beat Kilmister, W. Hart, Curtis, Harp (s), 26/25; Aplin, Underhill, Barber ,G. Hart (s) beat Clark, Hill, Whyte, Martin (s), 28/15. Other ' games- resulted:— Adams, Compton, Bain, R. Thompson (s) beat Colson, Boden, Foster, Stent (s), 28/16; Booth Pankhurst, Smith, Harris (s) beat Hawker, Spooner, McCarty, Callender (s), 24/14. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Mr Shiress Reid took place yesterday and wa> largely attended. A short service was conducted at the residence of Mrs Riggs (daughter) by the Rev. W. J. Couling, who officiated at the graveside. The pall bearers were Messrs L. Blatchford (Masterton), V. L. Robinson, W. Candy, S. Hill, Stewart Reid and K. G. Nix. Law Administration. ' A very fair number of women attended the meeting called for the purpose of hearing Mesdames Barren and Groves. Resolutions already passed by women's organisations in Masterton were put before the meeting and unanimously adopted. Strong exception was taken to the slack administration of the laws already in existence, especially in regard to the selling of liquor after hours. National Savings. Carterton last week exceeded its quota in the National Savings eflort by several hundreds of pounds. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. Towering above every thrill-shot drama of our time is the spectacular “North West Passage,” which will be screened at the Regent Theatre tonight. Spencer Tracy, Robert Young, Ruth Hussey and Walter Brennan head a mighty cast in this action-packed drama, which is approved for Universal Exhibition.
