TOJO MISREPORTED?
MR. KURUSU’S SUGGESTION. BREAK IN NEGOTIATIONS DENIED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, December 1. Mr Kurusu and Admiral Nomura called on Mr Cordell Hull this morning. In an interview with the Press, Mr Kurusu said he had not brought a final answer to Mr Hull’s document. When asked about General Tojo’s reported utterance that: “East Asia must be purged of British and American interference,” Mr Kurusu said he thought General Tojo had been badly misquoted in the news despatches. “We are asking for the full text,” Mr Kurusu added. When asked whether it would be safe to say that negotiations were being resumed today, Mr Kurusu quickly retorted: “They never have been broken off.” He added that continuation would be a better word.
