FEATHERSTON

CALVES AND LAMBS CHILDREN’S COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The judging of the Featherston school group' calf and lamb competitions took place yesterday afternoon when there was a good entry of animals which were a credit to the children. The awards were as follow:— Calves: —Care and handling: Keith Scott 1, Henry Halpin 2, Gilbert Cole 3. Jersey section: W. and G. Jensen 1 and 2, Valerie Fellingham 3, Keith Scott 4. Ayrshires: Gilbert Cole 1, J. Devon•port 2. Crossbred class: Henry Halpin 1. The judge was Mr R. R. P. Hardy. Lambs: —Longwool: Colleen Kelly 1, Keith Algie 2, Hugh McKenna 3. Shortwool: Leslie Wallace 1, Colleen Kelly 2, Honora Cole 3. Mr W. Davis was judge. District Soldiers’ Parcels. There was an excellent attendance at the euchre party held to raise money for the district parcels for soldiers’ fund. The first prize went to Mrs Lawson, the second to Miss K. Ruane, and the consolation prize to Mrs P. Habib.

' Two mystery envelopes donated by Miss Eva Card were won by Mr Chas. Skipage and Mrs Sim, respectively. Donations in cash were received from Miss Eva Card, Miss Mahood, Mrs L. Barton, and Mrs J. W. Holland. Mrs Lawson has donated a Christmas cake for the best aggregate over the series of card parties. At the close of the gathering Miss Card said that the collection for the Buchanan Home Christmas cheer fund totalled £2l and included a donation of £1 from Mr D. H. S. Riddiford. The competition for the mystery envelope would take place next Thursday. Personal Items. Mrs H. Cundy and her daughter, Sister Molly Cundy, arrived home today fom Dannevirke. Sister Molly Cundy has received notice that she has been accepted for service overseas and will proceed to the Waiouru Camp on Monday.
