. — - HOME GUARD WEEKLY PARADE.-(“Times-Age” Special.) At the weekly parade of the Home Guard field signals under active service conditions, lectures in trenching and map* reading, and semaphore signalling comprised the programme. Seventeen pairs of boots were distributed, the first instalment of the Home Guard equipment. Personal. The late Mr C. Lyford, of Tauherenikau was born at Kaikoura in 1868 and came to the North Island -at an early age. Later he engaged in farming for some years at Battersea and Morison’s Bush, afterwards taking up contracting until his retirement several years ago. He is survived by his widow, two sons (Messrs H. Lyford, Lower Hutt, and J. M. Lyford, Grey town) and four daughters (Mesdames D. A. Stewart, Levin, G. Hylands, Lowlands, Featherston, W. A. Wilkie, Martinborough, and D. J. Duncan, Masterton). There are thirteen grand-children. A daughter, Mrs H, Askew, Wellington, predeceased him three years ago. Anzac Hospital.
