TO ENTER CAMP
WELL KNOWN CRICKETERS ENTERTAINED BY RED STAR CLUB. FINE SERVICE RECORD OF MEMBERS. There was a large gathering at the Savage Club rooms, Masterton, last night when members and supporters of the Red Star Cricket Club assembled to honour Messrs Newman Hoar, Robert Hoar and C. Roys prior to their entering camp on the New Zealand Temporary Staff for the duration of the war. Mr G. B. Peterson presided.
In a few well chosen words, Mr Peterson wished the guests of honour success in their work. He said that Messrs Newman Hoar and C. Roys had been trained in the club from junior to senior grade and the club was very proud of the fact that they had turned out to be splendid cricketers. If they had the opportunity while on leave they would always be given a game with the club. Mr Peterson also referred to the club’s fine record of members serving overseas. Among them, two had made the supreme sacrifice and two were prisoners of war. Members of the club were serving in various parts of the world. On behalf of the club and those present, he made presentations to the guests, who were accorded musical honours.
The recipients suitably acknowledged the gifts and the sentiments which had been expressed.
