At the weekly parade of the Home Guard under Commander Hayes the time was spent in practising night manoeuvres. I Bowlinn. The Featherston bowling teams to play Martinborough on Saturday at Featherston will be: Booth Cup, W. Higgison, J. Hutana, G. O’Neale, H. McNamara (s); L. Benton, B. Fuge, J. Higgison, H. Bloxam (s). Shield: W. Elder, F. Talbot, L. James, H. Rolls (s). Alleged Danger Points. Mr C. J. Nix, speaking at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Automobile Association’s executive committee meeting referred to two danger points. One was on the Western Lake Road, near Mr Wilkinson's property. Here a culvert'was either too narrow, or traffic was driving too close to one side. The end of the culvert was level with the metal, and several cars had run over the end. The other point was on the Kahutara- Road near Mr H. GraJiam’s property. A drain ran along the roadside and white posts were necessary to indicate its existence, especially when the grass was long. It was resolved to write to the Featherston County Council on these matters. Another danger spot stressed was at Reading’s corner on the Kahutara Road. Here, for traffic travelling from the south, the tendency was to cut the corner, and as a plantation obscured the road, there was a danger of collision. It was decided to erect a sign on the southern side of the plantation, with the direction: “Motorists, Keep Left.” Difficult to Locate. At a meeting of the executive of the Wairarapa Automobile Association, Mr C. J. Nix referred to the difficulty experienced by motorists in locating the corner near the Racing Club’s building in Featherston when running from the direction of the Anzac Hall, particularly on a wet night. He suggested that the Borough Council be asked to erect a white post to mark the corner, or paint the kerbing white. This course was decided upon. Mr Nix drew attention to the row of poplars at “The Bend” on the Martinborough Road. To give a clear view of the road it was necessary to have at least three trees felled. He moved that the owner of the property, Mr Todd, be written to, asking if he would fell the trees. Mr McLaren seconded the motion which was carried.
