NATIONAL SAVINGS
ATTAINMENT OF WEEKLY QUOTAS. INCREASING INTEREST SHOWN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. To local committees and others interested in the success of the National Savings movement, the extent to which citizens generally are responding in the effort to ensure the attainment of the local weekly quotas is a source of much gratification. Since the inception of the quota system, each succeeding week has seen an increasing number of towns achieving their goal—in some cases exceeding their weekly quota by a considerable amount. For this happy result the enthusiasm and interest displayed by the local committees themselves is responsible in no small measure. Even in towns in which the weekly quotas have not been reached, the money ball, indicating the extent of the response, has risen high on the Post Office flagpole. With a growing realisation of the significance of these symbols, citizens generally are taking a keener interest in the National Savings movement and deriving pride from seeing that their town plays its allotted part in saving to win the war. The latest information available, covering the week ended November 1, shows that among the towns that have attained their goal and earned the privilege of flying a special national savings pennant as evidence of their success are Pahiatua, Pongaroa, Weber and Woodville.
