Explaining the raid on the Victorian Club (not Victoria Racing Club) reported yesterday, police officials said that “calling the card” was illegal betting. Complaints had been made that the Victorian Club was allowing illegal betting to be conducted on its premises. The police said the names of the secretary and members of the club committee only had been taken. They would be prosecuted by summons on charges which would be determined in consultation with the Crown Law authorities.
