Further successes with new forms of sulfanilamide are reported by the American College of Surgeons, reducing deaths from peritonitis. A long list of cases showed a great reduction in the appendicitis death rate, due to the use of sulfanilamide during operations. Dr. Thompson reported that since sulfanilamide was first used in 1940, at the. Roosevelt Hospital, New York, there had been no deaths from appendicitis, nor from complications thereof.
