AMERICAN NAVAL OIL TANKER TORPEDOED But Taken Safely Into Port ATTACK MADE WEST OF ICELAND NO SERIOUS CASUALTIES AMONG CREW LONDON, November 4. It was announced in Washington today that another American oil tanker Salinas, of 5,000 tons, was torpedoed west of Iceland last Wednesday night. News of the attack was withheld until the Salinas had reached port. The Salinas is the fourth American naval vessel to be attacked and the second in ‘the last five days. None of the members of the crew of the Salinas were killed or suffered serious injury. Little hope is now entertained for the 95 officers and men of the American destroyer Reuben James, who are missing out of a total complement of 142. A member of the crew of the destroyer Kearny has given an account of the attack on that vessel, which occurred at 1.30 a.m. on 'October 17. The Kearny formed part of the escort of a convoy which, was attacked by a number of U-boats. One of the U-boats surfaced between the convoy and the Kearny and fired three times at the destroyer, which was hit by a torpedo. This tore a large hole in her starboard side. The Kearny dropped a number of depth charges as the U-boat dived. Eleven members of the crew of the Kearny were injured.
