EKETAHUNA
PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) The funeral of the late Mr W. F. Taylor, took place at the Eketahuna Cemetery yesterday. The cortege, which was a large and representative one, was evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held throughout the district. The service at St.- Cuthbert’s Anglican Church was conducted by the Rev. G. E. Williams, who also officiated at the graveside. The pall-bearers at the church were members of the Tararua Electric Power Board, and at the cemetery members of the Power Board staff. Many beautiful wreaths were received. The death occurred suddenly on Saturday of Constable William Charles Gainey, of Pongaroa, at the age of 55 years. The late Constable Gainey had been for the past two months on sick leave. The funeral took place at the Mangatainoka Cemetery yesterday. The late Constable Gainey joined the Police Force at Wellington in 1916 and in the following year he was transferred to Wanganui. In 1927 he was transferred to Pahiatua, and from there to Pongaroa. While at Pahiatua he acted as relieving constable at Eketahuna on several occasions. Mrs Gainey predeceased him two years ago. One daughter, Mrs Murphy (Pongaroa) and three sons, Messrs Thomas (Bulls), John (Masterton) and Stanley Gainey (who is serving overseas with the New Zealand forces), are left to mourn their loss.
