PIGEON RACING
MASTERTON CLUB CONTEST. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew its first south race of the season on Saturday from Picton, an airline distance of 96 miles; There was heavy rain, with a strong southerly wind. Out of the 22 birds liberated at 11 a.m. only 11 homed by nightfall, the first arriving at 2.15 p.m. Below are the first six places:—C. J. Douglas’s “Big Pied,” 860yds. per minute, 1; C. J. Douglas’s “Certainty,” 859yds. per min., 2; J. Mayes’s .“Little Danube,” 858yds. per min., 3; R. Stewart and Son’s “Sea Wings,” 854yds. per min., 4; E. Wickens and Son’s “Doughtful II,” 788yds. per min., 5; E. Wickens and Son’s “Very Doughtful,” 783yds. per min., 6. i In the points for the South competition, C. J. Douglas is first with 19 points, and E. Wickens and Sons second with 11.
