GREYTOWN

HOME GUARD CLASS OF INSTRUCTION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The class of instruction at Greytown for officers and N.C.O’s. of the Home Guard was well attended. Despite the bad weather conditions, Captain Raymond Lee and his staff were able to carry out their full programme. During the training Lieut.-Colonel Birch, M.C., Group Director, and Colonel R. Beere, D. 5.0., District Director, paid a visit and watched the work being carried out. At the close of the course, the Battalion Commander, Major H. G. Carter, expressed his satisfaction at the progress made. Next weekend the Lower Valley officers and N.C.O’s. will assemble at Featherston for instruction. RED CROSS SUCCESSFUL DANCE. The Red Cross dance held at Greytown on Saturday evening was an outstanding success. Visitors from all parts of the Valley and from other districts helped to swell the large crowd present. The Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Mr R. Burch and Miss D. Bennett. The music was supplied by Messrs S. Te Tau and L. Daysh and Mr S. Shedden carried out the duties of M.C. Extras were played by Miss B. Hawke and Messrs A. Carter, T. Drysdale and L. Daysh. Personals. Miss D. Tully returned to Waipawa yesterday after spending the weekend at Greytown. Miss L. Hill is spending a short holiday at Paekakariki.
